#46 Managing conflict to get sustainable long-term results (JustinBarry) posted Tue November 17th 2009 @ 7:01 AM
William Channing's quote is still very refreshing on this subject in which he says that 'Difficulties are meant to rouse, not discourage. The human spirit is to grow strong by conflict.' As leaders, we need to manage this arena carefully if we want to get the long-term results from this. So here are some thoughts on this subject.

I received your newsletter this past weekend, and was surprised to discover that “Business & Professional Toastmasters Club#1169” was listed as the February club website winner. On behalf of our club, we are appreciative of all of the comments made and the e-mails received; several of these notes have already helped us improve our site in areas previously overlooked. As such, we believe the contest is a great idea. Thank you, Justin, for all of the work you have done in setting up these contests and developing this forum. Sadly, as of yet, I have been unable to find a formal announcement of the win, aside from the newsletter received. I understand that updates can take some time. With the new contest and other forum responsibilities, you no doubt have much to keep up with. So, to make these announcements easier by saving you from having to alter multiple pages, as it seems you are currently doing, I would like to suggest a page be developed that is specifically designated as being a website contest winner’s page. This page could be linked to from the home, website contest introduction and contest photo gallery pages - thus providing a single place where others could see current and previous winners, without having to hunt for them. A website contest winner’s page might include, along with the club’s name and web address, the date the site won and the states / countries they competed against, and perhaps their screenshot or banner. Also, being that I have been unable to find a club site winner’s award that could be displayed on winning sites (and from what I’ve been told, one has not been received at our club’s e-mail address), I would suggest that one be created (if it has not already been), and sent to the winning club’s e-mail address. The award could be linked to the forum or the website contest winner’s page (once developed) - thereby giving others a chance to verify a win and increasing interest in the contests offered, if not in the forum itself. Specific award winner pages and awards might also be considered for each contest category held. Being named a winner of any contest is a great honor. However, I’ve found that it holds more meaning to the one receiving the recognition if given something that can be displayed on their site or printed, if so desired. Thanks again, I look forward to seeing if or how these ideas might be implemented.
