Both are indeed very important roles, but it is worth noting that there is a signifiant difference between them:

Manager   Leader
Administers
  Innovates
Think short to mid term   Thinks long term
Maintain the status quo
  Seeks Challenges
Control             Motivates and inspires

Seek challenges (Leaders)

  • The best leaders are constantly seeking challenges.
  • They thrive on doing something new
  • They also consider improvements a normal part of their day-2-day job!

Control (Manager)

  • Managers, are more interested in controlling their people.
  • They often rely on policies and procedures when making decisions about how to interact with employees.
  • A leader on the other hand are more interested and focused on inspiring and motivating the people who work for them.
