#25 - What to do when your audience does not care!

Thursday, June 11th 2009 @ 12:45 AM (2 ratings)

This is a very special challenge to any speaker who sees that their audience is not interested or disengaged from you.  So what can you do?  Here are some tips....

  1. Know your audience - it has a lot to do with the relevance of material to their interest, and the level of willingness to sit there and listen.  If you pitch your presentation to the neeeds of your audience then all will be well.
  2. Be prepared - have a plan of action for most scanerios so you don't come unstuck!
  3. Choose your opening carefully - Engage the audience from the beginning by challenging them to think about your topic straight away.  Opening with a good question or quotation are some of the recommendations.
  4. Engage the audience - make them partners in your talk; If you see that someone isn't paying attention, ask them a question to draw them into the discussion/presentation you have.
  5. Stay dynamic and enthusiastic about your subject. - it is a good probability that you will overcome these challenges and be able to deliver a powerful speech presentation.
  6. Just speaking is only the basics - You need to put on a Multimedia Show and get their attention by appealing to all their senses so they want to listen and to be entertained!   Remember that you as the speaker / Presenter have to compete for their attention - and they are ruthless.

Enjoy and good luck!!

You certainly need the WOW factor in your professional presentation. The audience needs to get a strong view that you are in charge and know what they want!! Go forth and conquer!! John, Glasgow
