Was the Nobel Committee right to award the Peace Prize to Barack Obama?

Much as I admire the man I cannot see what he has had time to do, in terms of world peace, to deserve this award....what is your opinion?

I agree Barack has not been in office long enough and as the leader of USA I don't think he could ever do enough to be worthy of such an award.  This is a country which does not respect the rights and opinions of others.  One which creates a false economy and then screams blue murder when it falls apart. Invades a country based on a lie just so they can justify controlling the fuel. He leads a country which places sanctions on any country which trys to ensure their own safety i.e. North Korea.  Whilst i do not support North Korea's policies I do believe in their right to them.

Barack has done nothing to deserve the award.

As a United States citizen, I agree that President Obama has not had time to do anything Nobel worthy.  The prize should not be given on good intentions otherwise I would have one as well.

Obviously, Mr Annabel is not a fan of the United States, but one can not hold him accountable for the previous administrations actions.  While I am not President Obama's biggest fan, after 20 years serving in our military, I have an ingrained belief that I should support this country's leadership whether I agree with them or not.  Every four years, I have the opportunity to do my part to change that leadership.

The bottom line for the question that was posed...No, I do not think President Obama is deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize at this point in his presidency.  Only time will tell if he will ever be deserving.

It seams we all agree that a prize such as the Peace Prize has been diminished in value by granting it to someone whose actons have not resulted in a positive outcome.

The greatest hatching ground of trouble is recognised as the Israel/Palestine issue. There will never be peace until the Israelies and the rest of the world announce a border seperating and declaring 2 countries. The settlements certainly need to be stopped as they are recognised as being built in Palestinian territory and are effectively swiss cheesing not only their land but any hope of a successful peace process.

So I say to Mr Oboma you are addressing only part of the grounds for a lasting peace - get a border in place and the arabs will no longer believe that the Israelies want to steal as much land as they can and that in my view is the heart of the problem.

I think the Nobel committee have let the world's sheer relief that the previous administration is no more cloud their judgement. So yes, the award, to a fine and admirable man, is probably premature.

People look to America for leadership, and maybe (unfairly) place a higher level of expectation as a result. However, like every other country in the world, America is not perfect, which can lead to people venting their disappointment.
