#52 Leadership - Building the foundation blocks!

posted by LSF Guest, Premium MembershipWednesday, March 17th 2010 @ 1:12 AM

What gets you noticed? Lets start by asking, what gets you noticed as a leader?  Well, you want to be known as a person and his/her team that achieves results. These results inspire your peers and others to perform at equally exceptional levels.

Respect is today’s buzz word?

It is all about  when people can count on you to help achieve what is important to them. Leaders who can be counted on, develop and influence the minds and hearts of their coworkers and superiors.

Can you build on your charisma?

It is a two step process.  Step 1 is when you are totally committed to achieving something worthwhile, you radiate charisma.  This means that you have to be dedicated to your field and take the time to study and become an expert at what you do.    Step 2 is about taking  complete responsibility and accepting ownership for what you are doing.  This will mean that you don’t make excuses or blame others for unfavourable events.  When you are winning in this respect you will attract the external image that others admire and place firm building blocks for your charisma. Setting high standards and then disciplining yourself to live consistent with these standards will ensure you are on the right path!

Good luck members!

Hey Colm, thank you for this article touching on some very interesting aspects of leadership.

I think it is critically all about what gets you noticed...for me it is change management, meaning, implementing changes in the organisation that make the most impact!

Hi Colm, this is a nice article, well done!

Building and radiating charisma is not so easy and I would admit that you need to be 1000% dedicated to your field/profession.

Really interesting peice.

I think that the only way you can radiate charisma is to be fully committed to your cause. Even if eep down you don't believe it, for the time you are standing up and talking, you must 100% believe in what you are saying.

I heard of a useful technique called MIRRORING that can also be rapport and help enhance your charisma:

Mirroring is copying the other person’s physical mannerisms, movements and facial expressions when engaged in a conversation. You become a mirror image of the other person. Mirroring happens naturally in social interactions, but when you are conscious of it and are aware of its affects, it can be used as a tool in effective communication for generating rapport.

Try it out!
