Can we say what we expect from our best leaders? Do we really appreciate and understand what sets them apart from others. I have put together a list from feedback I have gathered over time and would appreciate member's feedback as to what are their top 3 qualities are:
Before we start with the shopping list, I would like to quote Peter Drucker on leadership, where he says "Leadership is doing things right and management is doing the right thing"...is that how we see it?!
So back to the shopping list of qualities:
- is visionary, strategic, always positive and motivating
- can change company culture
- is the creation of purpose and the development of resources
- challenges the status quo
- teaches people how to think
- promotes a better way either by example or advocacy
- managers work in the system, leaders work on the system
- being able to motivate people to perform to their maximum potential, independently of their working conditions.
- drives the strategy
- creating and communicating a vision, and motivating people to work towards it.
- outstanding communicator
- listen, Focus and Finish. Leaders are seen through the behavior and the result of the behavior.
- able to inspire people because their communication and message enters in resonance with other people's dreams.
- is about sincerity, spontaniety and grace
I hope this makes sense. If not, then what about this little example to finish off:
Manager is like a swimming instructor who sits on the shore and guides/directs you to swim the correct way. Leader is one who is into the pool going ahead of you and shows you the way to swim.
