Do you think the Irish Government is fit to lead our country during these difficult financial times?

If you were the Taoiseach what would you do?

I just don't think the government and Brian Cowen has shown the leadership to its people and the Global community.

Why:

- has been reacting to the current crises

- has not provided a vision or clear plan as to what they are going to do.

- are not being bold and providing fresh|innovative solutions to this problem

- not clearly communicating the current and long term plans to the people!

Hi Justin

While I belive Brian Cowen is hugely intelligent and capable I feel he lacks the Charisma and communications skills to pull the Nation behind him to support him in these dire economic times.

While the Financial Crisis is global it is particularly bad in Ireland because of our over reliance on the property market as well as our exposure/reliance to foreign / american manufacturing giants who now find us uncompeditive.

We need a good orator that will build confidence in the general public, talk up our economy, be bold and plough ahead with the Capital Program and get money circulating in the economy again.

Hi Justin,

The government does not know what to do and that makes me worried!

In times like this we need a cool head and a great visionary which Brian Cowan is not unfortunately!

These are really difficult times which will be challenging for any leader!

Having said that Brian Cowen does not have the vision to lead this country out of a recession!

I also unfortunately, dont have any suggestions or answers to this problem myself :-(

All the best

Ash!

They unfortunately are not fit to lead the country!

Even when I read today's papers, I see that the social partners and the dail members don't have a clear view of what the government are offering Cry

More worringly is the comment by Brian Cowen yesterday that the government need to recover 15billion over the next 5 years. So if they are having problems finding a solution for saving 2billion, what chance do they have for getting the 15billion savings!

Brian

Hi Justin I do not think this govt have the experience to deal with this crises. They have been in power through only good times and now seem all at sea on a way to get us out this mess.It should be said that they are not at fault over everything that has happend in the financial world but their response to it has been weak and has been bereft of leadership. Mr Cowens body language in itself is depressing. If I were taoiseach I would engage all the political parties in the process of trying to get our country going again. as this is an emergency. If not hand us back to the queen with our apologies.Regards Des

I dont think anything can be positively said about the opposition either.

Please correct me anyone, I dont believe the opposition has come up with a set of proposals that proves that they can lead either ....

Des, I think the government did ask the other parties to join together and tackle this but they refused.

So, Brian cannot lead us out of this.

If I was in charge, take very bold and decisive steps asap back in December 2008!

Thanks

Steve
