Brian Cowen has made it clear that he would not be making a public address to the country regarding the 2 billion savings cuts initiative with the social partners. His address to the media which was shown on RTE 1’s 6 o’clock news last Tuesday was his perferred approach.

Was this an effective platform to persuade us of the government’s position on such an important matter!

What do you think?

Sarah

Hi Sarah I think he would have been more effective had he addressed the nation from the studio, where he would have to look directly into the camera. He lost all effect by having notes, and looking down all the time. Des

Hi

I would agree with Des.

He didnt come across very well and the gave the impression that he didnt want to appeal to the public directly.

Having said that, I heard a speech he gave to the Dublin Business chambers last nite and it was a powerful speech without notes....maybe he attended Dublin toastmasters the nite before :-)
