The umbrella group of the country's largest accountancy bodies has called for an early Budget to tackle the decline in the country's economic situation.

The Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies says last October's Budget is not appropriate to cope with current circumstances.

It says new measures need to take effect from next month, otherwise business will continue to stagnate and the public sector will find it increasingly difficult to pay its bills.

The accounting body says Ireland can no longer afford to operate on cost structures established during the time of economic prosperity

this decision is long over-due even though this will hurt many people BUT this this must happen soon, otherwise the country/government will run out of money which will be terrible for all!

A big chunk of the problem has been a refusal to face reality. Very few of us could be accused of having "caused the bust", but like it or not we're all in it together. We are staring into the abyss here.

We can't afford to wait until the next budget rolls round. There has been too much drift and paralysis already. We have to act NOW

Sadly I think the government are more concerned about the opinion polls and if they will have a job at the next elections.

Come on Government, get your finger out!!

Every decision seems to be knee jerk and as we have seen, when under pressure, they back down.

The whole ethics of where money raised and what should and should not be funded needs to be looked at and debated transparent.
