Hi Justin & Sarah
Thank you for your comments - good guess!
The 'offical view' on this is:
Manager Leader
Administers Innovates
Think short to mid term Think long term
Maintain the status quo Seek Challenges
Control Motivate and inspire
Seek challenges (Leaders)
- The best leaders are constantly seeking challenges.
- They thrive on doing something new
- They also consider improvements a normal part of their day-2-day job!
Control (Manager)
- Managers, are more interested in controlling their people.
- They often rely on policies and procedures when making decisions about how to interact with employees.
- A leader on the other hand are more interested and focused on inspiring and motivating the people who work for them.

So what about giving direction to the organisation/dept/team/individuals.....anyone have any good and/or bad experiences on this important area.
Here are some observations on company vision statements:
- A vision does not happen overnight!!
- It takes considerable time and effort
- Getting the right balance and message on this is critical and requires careful thinking.
- Developing a vision can be an exciting and rewarding process if it all works out!!
What are your personal experiences about company visions that have been communicated - do they inspire you or do they annoy you!! |
